Appel Direct are a Gypsy Jazz outfit, based around two guitars played by Toby Morgan and Tim Heming. We are sometimes accompanied by double bass, violin, clarinet or voice.

Our passion is the fiery music of the Manouche gypsies, also known as gypsy swing. This music, with its infectious rhythm and strange harmonies, was made famous by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Waltzes, bossas, boleros, and free improvisation all form a part of Gypsy Swing.

We have played around the South-west of England for several years, performing at festivals, restaurants, bars and private functions. We can provide a continental ambience to any situation, and can perform acoustically or amplified, and as a duo or with other musicians.

Appel Direct performing at Dartington Cider Press Centre with Martin Henning, bass, and Joe Harrop, violin.

The Bell, Bovey Tracey
- “The March session started with Tim, Toby & Graham, a rather fine two-guitar and upright bass combo in the Hot Club style.... And the night finished with another set of gypsy jazz from Tim & the boys. Excellent. If only we hadn't forgotten the camera....”

Zoe King, Port Eliot Litfest
- “I saw Appel Direct perform at the Port Eliot Lit Fest and thought you were absolutely great.”

Geoff Lawrence, Dartington Cider Press
- “Thanks for the really excellent CD  purchased yesterday at Dartington - and that applies to both the music and the recording quality.”

Jane Brady, Totnes Rowing Club
- “Thanks again for playing at our event, I think you added a lot to its success.”
